Swan home
We're very proud of The Swan and what it offers to discerning guests.

But don't just take our word for it - here are just a few unsolicited testimonials.

'You couldn’t possibly beat it!'
“We were married at The Swan so were a little nervous about going back, would it be as wonderful as we remembered? If possible it was better, the staff are fantastic, warm and helpful without being obvious or intrusive. The hotel itself is so beautiful and the rooms are gorgeous, beautifully decorated with modern facilities and full of character. Dinner and breakfast were exceptional - we met the egg supplier at the local farmer's market where other locals spoke about the hotel with huge affection. So if you're looking for a weekend retreat in a truly lovely area, I can't imagine that you would beat The Swan.”

'We will definately be back'
“Hello, I just wanted to send you a quick note to say thank you to you and your wonderful staff for such a wonderful stay at The Swan. My husband and I got married at The Swan on 25th April 2008 and this year with the kind opportunity of a babysitter we decided to celebrate by going back. It brought back memories of our lovely wedding day (which our guests were unanimous in saying was the best wedding they'd ever been to - not because of us but because of our choice of venue) and the fabulous service we received for our wedding. My husband is a pilot so we travel a lot but I have to say we have never experienced service like that your staff offer from reception to the restaurant, the bar to your room staff. We will definitely be back and our friends and families have been frequent visitors since the wedding. I could go on, but won't!
Thanks again for making our anniversary so very special.”

'Highly Recommended'
“We spent 3 nights at The Swan and stayed in a feature room on the ground floor at the back of the hotel - The Cockfield. The room was so comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. We had a fantastic weekend. Lavenham is delightful and has very good places to eat. Highly recommended.”

'Wow'
“My husband and I booked to stay at the Swan for two nights, which included dinner and breakfast. As it was a special occasion the management upgraded us to a junior suite- free of charge. WOW the room was beautiful with old beams, a large queen size bed, which had a card and a box of chocolates. The evening meal was fanastic with a great choice of food. The fish and the steak was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. In the afternoon we had half price afternoon tea. Consisting of cakes, sandwiches and homemade scones. Just as good as the Ritz.

'Top Marks'
“The lunch we had at the Swan today was exquisite. We have tried many restaurants recently always ending our meal disappointed and vowing to stick to our own cooking. Not so with the Swan Hotel when the portions were the right size with flavours to make the tastebuds tingle. The staff were friendly and attentive too. Top Marks!”

'Well run hotel with character - and good food and wine'
“The first thing I noticed was this hotel had a bit of a buzz. All the staff are smartly dressed, friendly and efficient, and it seemed busy for a February Thursday afternoon. Our room was very nice, with sofa and chair, it was clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. The history and character of the hotel is probably well known and one feels some of the history, staying there. The food was elegant and good.

Fantastic place to stay...
“The hotel is a fantastic place to stay, especially in the winter with the log fires. The staff were great, service too and the rooms lovely. Will definately go back.”

'Perfect for a Christmassy break'
“Fabulous hotel, rooms beautifully and, seemingly recently refurbished to a very high standard.Food excellent. Lounge by log fires where the attentive staff ply you with tea & coffee. Probably the best all round hotel I've stayed in for a country break.”

Food and service are great
“We have been there many times, and the staff are always so welcoming, the food and service are great, it's near where we need to be in East Anglia, and we love it!! ”
Guests from USA, September 2008

Genuinely warm and friendly
“The menu in the bar and lounges was outstanding- probably the best bar food menu I have seen. However, the best feature of this lovely hotel is the staff. I have 50 years experience of staying in hotels all over the world but I have never experienced such a genuinely warm and friendly ambience as at the Swan. ”
Guest from Norfolk, October 2008

Everything about it was great!
“I had lunch today with a group of friends. Everything about it was great! The meal was delightful - the risotto was full-flavoured and just the right size. The house red was well-balanced. The lemon posset was almost a religious experience! The staff were thoughtful as well as efficient, and the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. I'm only in the UK for another month, but I will be back.

It takes a confident chef to put food as simple as this on the menu
“......the soup is very good, as is my Thai crab tian with mango and chilli salsa; also my husband's lemon fennel and sun-dried tomato salad. "Just right", he says. "It takes a confident chef to put food as simple as this on the menu."”
Paddy Burt, for The Daily Telegraph

Second stay...
“Second stay at this hotel and will definitely be back. Fantastic welcome, service and nothing is too much trouble.”
Guest from Spalding, April 2008

The Whole Experience...
“The whole experience - the setting of the hotel in a historical village, the old building itself sympathetically decorated and furnished, but particularly the attentiveness and polite friendliness of staff. It was a Pearl Wedding celebration and the staff made it really special - a great place to be pampered and relax. The food was excellent and the afternoon tea an experience in itself. ”
Guest from Haverhill, April 2008

The Perfect English Inn..
“"I loved every minute of this weekend. The hotel is gorgeous. The public rooms are atmospheric, traditional yet with modern touches such as the reception. There was a fire, cosy sofas, wooden beams and a nice spacious bar, as well as a more traditional bar".”
Guest from London, March 2008
